"Twinbound" tells the coming-of-age story of twin sisters, Homura and Yuki as they navigate the challenges of adolescence, identity, and family while living with their wise and loving grandfather, Akiyoshi.

I was especially drawn to the challenge of animating twins that are biological identical yet distinctly different in personality and behavior. Yuki is shy, gentle and deeply attached to her sister, embodying warmth and closeness. Homura, on the other hand, seeks to asserts her individuality and is often emotionally guarded. Their grandfather, Akiyoshi, finds himself at the heart of their evolving relationship and conflicts.

I focused closely on subtle differences in facial anatomy, eye movement, and micro-expressions to capture the twins’ unique personalities on their expression sheets. Yuki’s expressions emphasize softness and vulnerability, with gentle eyebrow raises and wide, reflective eyes that convey her open and empathetic nature. In contrast, Homura’s expressions feature sharper, more controlled movements such as tighter lips, narrowed eyes, and restrained smiles, highlighting her emotional guardedness and strong desire for independence.
